In an ongoing effort to help you do what you do better, I still want to know, "How are you doing? Really?" I've asked variations of this question for the past several weeks to get you thinking about where you are in lifein and out of the office.
Although we casually ask this of each other, often many times a day, it can be a rather big question that requires a thoughtful, careful answerif you really want to get down to it.
Last week we talked about Family and how it can be a blessing or a curse. I challenge and encourage you to make family a blessing in your life. Remember, it's not what people do to you that matters, its how you react to what they do. I've also asked how you're doing in regard to Finances and the Fundamentals of your job. (To review these Points, go to www.corsini.com and click on e-newsletters to access our archived Points.)
Those of you familiar with our whole-life approach to business coaching will know we are going down the list of our 7 F's of True Successthe Fundamentals of work, Finances (and creating your financial legacy), Family (and friends), Faith, Fitness (emotional and physical), Fun and the Fusion of these things.
This week, we'll turn our attention to Faith, and I ask you, "How's your spiritual life goin'?"
I want you to think about how faith influences your life as a whole; I'm not going to try to convince you that faith should be important to you. There are various "degrees" of faith in people's lives. Some don't have a firm belief in God. For others, faith is a once-a-week-for-an-hour kind of thing. Still others try to live each and every day in a state of grace. You know who you are. This Point is for those people who want their faith to be intertwined in their lives.
With all of the craziness going on in the financial markets these days, we are realizing that there is no security in possessions. We come into the world with nothing, and we leave with nothing. It's as simple as that. So if we can't find security in possessions, where can we find it? In our faith.
Time after time, we've seen a high-ranking executive or politician get defrocked for some egregious or illegal action. In many cases, they seemingly had it all and let their pride and greed get the worst of them. Some find themselves out of the C-suite or out of office. Others end up going to jail. Then and only then do many of them rediscover themselves, connect with their souls and find their faith. What if they had worked with a true understanding of faith throughout their journey to the top? Just think about all of the wonderful and significant things they could have accomplished along the way.
Last week I told you about an interview with billionaire Warren Buffett, who said, "When you get to my age, you'll measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you. That's the ultimate test of how you've lived your life." At its simplest form, faith is about believing in something that you can't prove. It's also fundamentally about loving others. It's important to note that all of the world's major religions observe some version of the Golden Rule. And even those folks who don't firmly believe in God generally agree that following the Golden Rule is a good policy.
I've heard it said: "Just like standing in a garage doesn't make you a car, sitting in church doesn't make you religious." Living your faith is not about being able to memorize scripture. It's not about how many times you attend your place of worship. (Although both can be a great way to grow in your faith.) Living your faith means walking the talk. It is about loving othersand loving yourselfenough to do the right thing.
So, "How's your spiritual life goin'?" Think (and feel) before you answer.

Your faith's principles are the perfect compass to guide you in your lifeboth in and out of the office. Many people don't find their faith until they find themselves in one of life's gutters. Living out your faith in your everyday life can not only prevent you from getting into trouble, but it also can help you achieve more of the good that life has to offer. The Golden Rule is called the golden rule for a reason. If you find you're having a hard time following it or if you feel you're missing something in life, maybe it's time to turn to your faith.
